HELICOPTER OVERHEAD. CLAIRE: IT ALL CAME TO AN END HERE ON I-95 NORTHBOUND AT THE DUNN OVERPASS, BUT THIS STARTE BACK IN ORANGE COUNTY, THEN INTO SEMINOLE, THEN VOLUSIA GOT INVOLVED. >> WHY DIDN’T YOU STOP? CLAIRE: SHERIFF MIKE CHITWOOD WAS AMONG THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS TRACKING THIS ACCUSED CAR THIEF ACROSS SEVERAL COUNTIES. VOLUSIA COUNTY DEPUTIES GOT BEHIND THE WHITE CONTRUCTION TRUCK IN DELTONA. THEY SAY IT WAS STOLEN IN ORLANDO, ITS WORK LIGHTS STI FLASHING, AND THE DRIVER REFUS TO STOP. THE SHERIFF’S HELICOPTOR, AIR ONE STAYED WITH THE TRUCK, GUIDING GROUND UNITS READY WITH STOP STICKS. WE FLATTENED THREE OF THE FOUR TIRES. WE GOT HIM AS HE WAS COMING THROUGH DAYTONA WE GOT HIM WITH , ANOTHER STICK HIT. CLAIRE: WATCH THE SUSPECT SPI OUT ON I-95. DEPUTIES HAD ALREADY STOPPED NORTHBOUND I-95 TRAFFIC, SO NO INNOCENTS WERE AT RISK DURING THE TAKE DOWN. >> PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> GIVE US YOUR HANDS. CLAIRE: INVESTIGATORS SAY ONLY ONCE DID THE SUSPECT DRIVER APPEAR RECKLESS, PASSING TRAFF ON THE HIGHWAY. OTHERWISE, HE STAYED WITHIN THE SPEED LIMIT, BUT JUST WOULDN’T GIVE UP, AT LEAST NOT EASILY. Truck thief caught in Volusia County after mulitcounty chase

A man accused of stealing a truck in Orange County wound up two counties away with flat tires after hitting stop sticks.Authorities said the suspect drove for miles with deputies behind him and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office helicopter overhead.The chase ended on I-95 northbound at the Dunn overpass.Sheriff Mike Chitwood was among the law enforcement officials tracking the suspected car thief across several counties.Volusia County deputies got behind the white construction truck in Deltona. They said it was stolen in Orlando with its work lights still flashing.Even though the driver refused to stop, the Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Air One, stayed with the truck and guided ground units, who were ready with stop sticks.”We had flattened three of the four tires. We got him as he got off I-4 onto I-95. We got two tires and then we got him as he was just coming through Daytona. We got him with another stick hit,” Chitwood said. Footage from the chase shows the vehicle spin out on I-95.Investigators said the suspect appeared reckless only once, when he passed traffic on the highway, but otherwise he stayed within the speed limit.But he wouldn’t stop, investigators said.Chitwood said there was drugs found in the door of the car.The suspect is facing a number of charges related to the pursuit in Volusia and will have charges in other counties, as well.
