A Volusia County man is accused of using racial slurs against his neighbor and threatening her with a hammer.Areiya Evans said she was home alone with a small child Sunday when her neighbor across the hall at her apartment complex starting yelling at her.Evans said 46-year-old David Martin used obscenities and racial slurs and was holding a hammer. “He was banging on my door with the hammer. We opened up the door. He acted like he was going to hit us with the hammer, so I shut the door,” Evans said. The commotion led others in the complex to call police, but by then, investigators said Martin was back inside his own unit, refusing to come out.Police said Martin was agitated and under the influence of something when they arrived and continued to rant.Officials said Martin told the officers he was ready to fight.According to police, Martin eventually slipped out a back door and headed toward the beach. He was arrested on a beach approach.Martin’s wife, Sarah Martin, claims she and her husband are the victims in the situation and are frequently harassed by the neighbors.She denies Martin ever used racial slurs.Martin is out of jail after posting a $6,000 bond.
