BEN: BREAKING NEWS, TWO BOATERS AT THE CENTER OF A SEARCH AT SEA HAVE BEEN FOUND ALIVE. 40-YEAR-OLD RYAN HOLLIS SET OFF FROM RHODE ISLAND LAST WEEK, ALONG WITH HIS FRIEND JOSHUA CAIRONE AND A DOG. HOLLIS HAD PLANNED TO SAIL TO MIAMI. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO CHECK IN WITH LOVED ONES FRIDAY IN NORFOLK, VIRGINIA AND NEVER DID. THE TRIO WAS FOUND OFF THE COAST OF NORTH CAROLINA. THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE SEARCH.

They later confirmed that Joshua Kane Cairone and a French bulldog named Louis were also on Hollis’ sailboat. A Coast Guard air rescue crew from North Carolina found the group 100 miles off the coast of Cape Henry, Virginia. The men intend to continue their planned trip to Miami and are heading to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, next.According to officials, air crews from Massachusetts and North Carolina had searched an area of 30,000 miles along the East Coast since Saturday.The group left Jamestown on Wednesday and was heading to Norfolk, Virginia, on Hollis’ 43-foot Benneteau sailing boat, the Carol K, according to officials.Officials said Hollis had planned to make the stop in Norfolk on Friday and check in with his girlfriend in Rhode Island. She contacted the Coast Guard to report him missing.The Coast Guard shared a photo that Cairone posted to Facebook at 12:41 p.m. Wednesday, which officials said was shared when they were 12 nautical miles south of Newport, Rhode Island.According to his personal business website, Hollis lives in Portsmouth and is an Army veteran and the father of three boys.Hollis posted that he designs and installs home solar energy systems and works primarily in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.The Associated Press contributed to this report.
