Emergency officials are on the scene of a partial building collapse Saturday morning at the Hard Rock Hotel construction site in New Orleans.According to emergency medical services officials, one person is dead, two people are missing and 18 have been taken to an area hospital for treatment. All of those individuals are in stable condition, and some have been discharged, an official said Saturday afternoon.New Orleans Fire Department Superintendent Tim McConnell said the person who died was working on the building.McConnell said during a Saturday afternoon news conference that there were originally three people missing but that later changed.Emergency officials planned to use a search and rescue team and dogs.There were two people who authorities were unable to locate but were presumed to be alive. Officials believe they know where they are but they aren’t able to see them and have used drones to try to find them, McConnell said. Responders think they can get to one person safely but the other person is believed to be in an unstable portion of the building, McConnell said.NOLA Ready said the New Orleans Fire Department, New Orleans Emergency Medical Services and the New Orleans Police Department have been responding to the structure collapse.Officials said it’s an active scene and asked people to avoid the area. Emergency officials say there is concern about a possible secondary collapse.The city of New Orleans said the frame of the building is considered stable but is unsupported, therefore the situation is considered dangerous and mandatory evacuations have been issued.Parts of several nearby streets have been closed. Hard Rock International released the following statement regarding the collapse: “Citadel Builders LLC was contracted by Kailas Companies, owner of the project, to build the Hard Rock Hotel based on a brand licensing agreement with Hard Rock International, the future manager of the hotel. Hard Rock has had no involvement in the construction of the project. “We want to extend our deepest sympathies to victims of this tragic accident and to their loved ones and friends.” This is a developing story.
