Lion captured outside enclosure at Marion County animal sanctuary

A lion had to be captured after being found outside its primary enclosure.The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said it worked with staff at the Endangered Animal Rescue Sanctuary in Marion County to secure the lion.Officials said no one was injured.FWC officials said they are investigating to find out how the lion was able to get out of its enclosure.The animal sanctuary put out a statement on their Facebook page.The statement said one of their volunteers inadvertently left a gate open which let a 16-year-old lion out of her enclosure.Officials with the sanctuary said she was tranquilized and put back inside her enclosure by authorities.They also said the public was never at risk because of a perimeter fence that surrounds the property.
