More than eight months after a man was found beaten and burned in Marion County, detectives have arrested someone in connection with that murder.The body of Melvin Thompkins, 63, was found in a remote area west of Ocala.The report says he had multiple skull fractures and that he was badly burned.He was found 7 miles from where he lived.The day after he was found, investigators say Isaiah Maeweathers, 23, was driving Thompkins’ car and that he had the man’s cell phone. They also said that Thompkins’ blood-stained clothes were in the trunk.Lab results led to Maeweather’s arrest months later.Investigators said they believe the victim was killed in a secondary location and transported to where his body was found.Investigators don’t know what may have led to the violence. The two men knew one another because they were neighbors.Maeweathers is accused of second-degree murder.
