Authorities searched for missing inmate Curtis Ray Watson, 44, for days before a couple said they saw him on their surveillance camera, rifling through their outdoor refrigerator. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has said he’s a suspect in the death of Debra Johnson, 64, a longtime corrections official who was found dead in her home on the prison grounds. Watson was seen at her home three hours before her body was discovered, investigators said.Her co-workers discovered her body about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after she didn’t report to work. Hours earlier, at 8:30 a.m., corrections officers saw Watson on a facility golf cart at her home, the TBI said.Harvey and Ann Taylor told the Washington Post that they were awakened by a notification noise from their surveillance camera. Someone was in their backyard.Ann Taylor said she looked closely at the person rifling through the couple’s outdoor fridge and recognized Watson. His face was all over the news.“She said, ‘That’s him, that’s him,’” Harvey Taylor said at a Sunday news conference.For five days, authorities had received hundreds of tips of possible sightings of Watson, but the Taylors’ was the first credible one. The pair said it was terrifying to see a stranger going through their things — even more so when they realized who it was. Thankfully, Watson didn’t attempt to break into their home, the couple said. “I’m just relieved that it went the way it did,” Harvey Taylor said.
