Body found after tip leads Winter Garden police to wooded area in east Orange County

Winter Garden police are investigating after a body was found 40 miles away in Wedgefield. Officials say it’s still unclear if the discovery has anything to do with an Amber Alert they issued last week. Winter Garden Police Department officers said a tip led them to Robertson Street. Over the past week, officers from Winter Garden have been looking for 16-year-old Bruce Hagans. Officers said they believe he was abducted. Wedgefield is about 40 miles away from Winter Garden. Officers have not said if the body found Friday is Hagans, or that the death is connected to his disappearance, saying it was too early in the investigation to confirm even an age or gender.”We have no idea, no way to say this is our missing teenager Bruce Hagans,” said Capt. Jason Pearson. “One way or the other, it’s either the closer of one crime, or the opening of another.” Winter Garden officers did confirm an arrest had been made in Hagans’ disappearance. It was made just as the search was underway in Wedgefield, though officers did not give any details on the suspect or charges involved. “There’s other persons of interest that we’re working at developing and of course still going strong on leads,” Pearson said.
